AKMSecure announces that Dr. Mark T. Maybury has joined the company’s Board of Advisors. Dr. Maybury brings more than three decades of leadership in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and defense technology — from the Pentagon to the private sector.

Career Highlights

Dr. Maybury served as Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force, the senior scientific adviser to the Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Air Force, where he provided strategic oversight of $5 billion in science and technology investments. He led three foundational Air Force studies: Cyber Vision 2025, Energy Horizons, and Global Horizons.

At the MITRE Corporation, he held executive roles over two decades, including VP and Chief Technology Officer, VP and Chief Information Security Officer, and Director of the NIST National Cybersecurity FFRDC. He directed MITRE’s independent R&D program and managed cybersecurity strategy across seven FFRDCs.

As the first Chief Technology Officer of Stanley Black & Decker, Dr. Maybury grew new product revenue past $1 billion. He currently serves as Vice President of Commercialization at Lockheed Martin, leading efforts to move R&D into operational deployment across defense and commercial sectors.

Importance to the AKM Mission

Dr. Maybury’s career has centered on moving advanced technology from concept to operational scale in the most demanding environments, mirroring AKM’s mission of replacing legacy PKI with Autonomous Key Management™.

The national and global organizations I’ve had the privilege to help lead across government, national labs, and commercial industry, all face the same fundamental challenge: PKI was never designed for contested, disconnected, or resource-constrained environments. AKM’s quantum-resilient, autonomous architecture addresses that gap directly, and I’m looking forward to helping advance its application to assure national security and provide resilient critical infrastructure.” — Dr. Mark T. Maybury

“We are pleased to have Dr. Maybury’s strategic insights guiding AKM,” said Brian McGowan, CEO of AKMSecure. “Mark’s track record in commercializing dual-use technologies and guiding national security innovations will be invaluable as we scale AKM to protect critical infrastructure and high-stakes environments against evolving threats, including quantum risks.”

About Dr. Maybury

Dr. Maybury is an IEEE Fellow with three U.S. patents and ten edited books in AI and information technology. He has received the Commander’s Public Service Award, the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award, and a Federal 100 Award.

About AKMSecure

AKM is a patented Autonomous Key Management protocol that replaces outdated PKI with a quantum-secure, air-gapped-capable architecture using dynamic, self-managing credentials — eliminating the key-compromise breaches that PKI makes inevitable. AKM enforces Zero Trust by verifying every session independently, leaving no persistent credentials to steal and no standing privileges to exploit. Built to NSA standards for resilient cybersecurity, AKM deploys as a lightweight SDK into existing software and hardware — replacing PKI in enterprise IT or delivering encryption to OT endpoints where PKI was never viable. Its crypto-agile pipeline generates unlimited key material from a single seed and self-heals automatically, ensuring continuous operations without human intervention.
